The Doll Test and Internalized Racism
The clear preference for white dolls in psychological experiments since the 1940s has consistently revealed childrens' association of whiteness with beauty, intelligence, and goodness. The first video is a composite of various doll tests. The second is from filmmaker Kiri Davis' recreation of the doll study in her 2006 “A Girl Like Me.”
